Of all the live recordings that I have been privy to, Live At Montreux, showcasing Les McCann (ft. Eddie Harris), is, by far, one of my favorites. The album was recorded in 1969, a time when live festivals were at one of their greatest points. Les McCann was on piano and singing, while Eddie Harris was wailin’ on the sax. The entire album is filled to the brim with greatness, but my favorite track is “Compared To What”, which I’m guessing comes as no surprise. If ever there were MUST-HAVE recordings for a jazz lover, this one certainly ranks way up there on the list. Listen to the first track, then, just let the entire thing play. You owe it to yourself. Enjoy.
Next week: Keith Jarrett
Jazz, jazz, and nothing but jazz.
