Legends: Duke Ellington

Duke Ellington was born in Washington, D.C. on April 29, 1899, and died in NYC, on May 24, 1974.  He was considered one of the greatest band leaders of his time, and perhaps even the greatest ever.  With so many choices, I don’t think that I could pick one over another.  That said, his music helped shape the landscape of jazz, as we know it today.  He was also instrumental in forging the careers of many a legend.  Best or amongst the best, he will never be forgotten.  I’ve pieced together a few of his most well-known songs for your approval.  It would have been a sad list if I hadn’t included him and Ella Fitzgerald doing “It Don’t Mean A Thing”. So, what are you waiting for?  The music isn’t going to play all by itself, and that play button is feeling neglected!!!
