Sleeping in? Headed to a weekend getaway? Perhaps a few chores? Well, whatever you have in mind, I’ve got just the companion for you – On Repeat! This is version 04.05.25. It is my ever-changing playlist of songs that I NEED to hear during the course of the day. I took a look at my “On Repeat” playlists that I’ve created over time and there seems to be a recurring theme – they don’t change much from week-to-week. Instead, from month-to-month, there is usually a marked difference compared to the day on which they were created. In the end, the usual suspects are still there, but they have usually been bumped to another place on the list. “High Fly” (Blank & Jones), “Night Fall” (Michael C. Lewis), “Trust” (Roy Hargrove), and “Berlin Sky/Midnight In Paris”, (both by Mo’jardo, ft. Tim Gelo) have all been on the list for heaven knows how long – they’ve simply migrated.
Joining us, this month are a few of my new faves: Lost And Lonely by Dualbox, Marseille by Andy Snitzer, Midnight Caffe by Gabin, Pride by Syntax, Adoro by Mogambo Affair, and my newest and most played, Brooklyn Rain by Silje Nergaard (ft. Hakon Hornstad).
Ms Nergaard comes to us fresh off the presses from her new album, Tomorrow We’ll Figure Out The Rest (2025 Sony Entertainment Germany GmbH). That voice is magnificent, and the lyrics are chart-making. Yeah – I have played that . . . well, you know – a lot! Her bio says that of her albums, there are but a few that are sung in English, a feat that she accomplishes with extreme ease. You should go to the album and play it all. Yeah – really.
The last year or two has had me “chasing Syntax around the globe” trying to get my hands on the song “Pride”. It was, at the time, an import only, and copies ran $60 (sixty dollars) and up. I was leery of making a purchase of such a pricey tag. It turns out that I would not have been disappointed. I first heard the song as the closing music at the end of each episode of “Alice Nevers”, of MHZ fame. SPOTIFY has, apparently, finally gotten their hands on the rights to play the content, but I have yet to listen to the rest of the music. The Pride that I know was previously only presented as a sort of “unplugged” teaser of the song. The song, in its entirety, has quite an electronic tilt to it, but not enough to make me lose interest. Now that you’ve gotten the skinny re On Repeat, what are you waiting for? Hit it!
