I bet you can’t believe that it’s Hump Daaaay! already. Yet, here we are. I will start with the fact that this is sooo far from jazz. I am only going to say this once: set an alarm in case you doze off because we don’t want the boss to see you with your head face-down on your desk. OK – pretend that I did say it twice and just do it. While I have always hated the term “Lo-fi” for chillout music, this just hits the spot. Now – stop right here and get all of your “necessaries” (the things that help you to do what you do), grab some java, hit play, then come back. You’re back? Good. Storytime, kats, and kittens!!
One of my favorite times was the Summer after graduating from high school. You’ve all heard of déjà vu, right? Of course. Well, I have a similar experience that hits me from time to time. Ok- lots of times. I had searched (in vain) for a term to describe that experience. My brother, poormanablackstar, being the genius that he is, took a deep breath and, without wasting even one precious moment, instantly came up with “Jazz Flash”. I loved it!! Although it happens even when I am not listening to jazz, when I have this experience, ninety percent of the time I AM listening to jazz. I hear a song and I am instantly taken back, not just to any old place and time, but to a place and a time that was favorable for me – elementary school and, more times than not, the Summer after high school! As I prepared this playlist, nearly every other song created a Jazz Flash for me! Here’s hoping that your Jazz Flashes are as enjoyable for you as mine are for me!
