Meet . . . Bugge Wesseltoft

My first encounter with Bugge Wesseltoft was via his “New Concept of Jazz Box Set” offering.  It is, to say the least, very innovative.  His bio says (per his website) “I don’t want to be another carbon copy of any musician, past or present:  I don’t see the point in that”.  Well-stated, and he has certainly accomplished that, in my humble opinion.  “Yellow Is The Color” was the first song that I heard by him and have been playing it ad infinitum for quite some time.  If you’re a fan of avant-garde, then you will certainly appreciate this offering.  Also on that album, and that track, is Norwegian saxophonist Hakon Kornstad, another who is always on my Scandinavian Jazz playlists.  If you’re not accustomed to avant-garde, have patience and give it a try.  You may be pleasantly surprised.  I certainly was.  Did I mention patience?  It is a rather long-winded album.  Lol.  I’m just gonna go ahead and say it – we also share the same birthday, a few years apart but close enough.
